Hello Friends,
Welcome to this week’s newsletter. I hope you found last week’s newsletter inspiring. For this week I have prepared two new destinations. I decided to pick Madrid and Nice as travel options for this week’s newsletter. I decided to pick Madrid and Nice as these are cities that I am eager to visit and I was very excited when reading about each city and the interesting facts about the city.
I will kick off the newsletter with Madrid. I have chosen Madrid as a starting point as I have a huge desire to visit Spain. I would like to present you some interesting places that I highly recommend you to visit as a must when visiting Madrid and also I want to present you interesting facts about Madrid as I belive it will be useful for some of you to read these interesting facts.
My first suggestion for you when visiting Madrid is Museo Nacional del Prado. Museo Nacional del Prado is the main Spanish National Art Museum at the heart of Madrid. The architect commissioned was Juan de Villanueva. Juan was known as the architect of enlightenment in Spain. The museum opened its door to the public in 1819 by King Ferdinand VII and Queen Isabel. This is when it was given its current name Museo Nacional Del Prado. Museo Nacional Del Prado is part of Madrid’s three museums that form the Golden Triangle of Art. Thyssen-Bornemisza Museum and Museo Reina Sofia are the other two. These three museums considered important and are located close to each other on the Paseo del Prado in central Madrid in Spain.
My second suggestion is to visit the Royal Palace of Madrid. The interior of this palace is outstanding because of the art and lavish materials used to decorate the rooms. Some of the expensive materials used to build and decorate this room are stucco, mahogany doors, and Spanish marble. Some of the artefacts preserved in this palace are from the Royal Armoury of Madrid. There are porcelain, watches, furniture, silverware that were used by the royal families.
Another interesting fact is that the original palace was built by Muhammad I Umayyad Emir of Cordoba, between 860 and 880. He used it as an outpost during his reign. In 1476, the palace was damaged during the war of the Castilian Succession. In 1561 Charles V commissioned architect Alonso de Covarrubias to renovate the castle. The renovation of the palace continued after Philip II made Madrid the capital of Spain.
An interesting fact for history lovers can be that the Royal armoury is displayed in the Palace. This armoury is considered to be one of the best in the world and is made up of pieces from the 13th century.
My final suggestion for Madrid is to see the Gran Via street in Madrid. The street, sometimes referred to as the "Spanish Broadway", is one of the city's most important shopping areas, with a large number of hotels. The new road created opportunities for architects, who had the opportunity to create large buildings in the latest architectural styles. The first eye-catching building starting from the Calle de Alcalá is the most famous of all, the Edificio Metrópolis or Metropolis Building. The landmark was built between 1907 and 1911 by the father and son architects Jules and Raymond Février. The original statue, La Unión y el Fénix was replaced in 1975 by a statue of a winged Goddess Victory. If you found those facts interesting then you are at luck my friends because from March I will be uploading two newsletters every week on Monday. One of the newsletters will be about facts about European countries and interesting facts about the cities in each European country. I hope that you will enjoy them!
My second suggestion for a February trip is Nice, France. Nice is located in the South of France. It is an important tourist destination on the Mediterranean coast.
I have created a list of the two best things to do in Nice. If you decide to visit Nice you definetely have to go to the Old Town. This historic part of Nice feels like a medieval village with narrow streets curving between old buildings with red-tile roofs, small restaurants and open-markets.
The second attraction that is worth for visiting is Promenade des Anglais. It stretches for seven kilometers and provides an uninterrupted view of the Mediterranean. The promenade extends from the airport on the west to the Quai des États-Unis (United States Quay) on the east. The distance is approximately 7 km.
I hope that you enjoyed this week’s Travel ideas
Have a nice week
See you next week Friends
